Dr. Robert Atkins adopted low carbohydrate diets that were called Atkins Nutritional Approach, but was popularly known as Atkins Diet. He wanted to lose his own over weight and researched on it. Dr. Atkins diet plan is basically based on the theory that over weight people eat too many carbohydrates. Human body burns fat as well as carbohydrates to obtain energy.

The diet plan allows you to eat foods:
• Set new limits on the amount of food you eat but no refined sugar, milk, white rice, or white flour
• Eat foods regarded as rich, such as meat, eggs, cheese, and more
• Claims that it will reduce your appetite in this process.
• When on Atkins diet, you are eating pure protein and fat. You can consume red meat, fish, fowl, and regular cheese. You are allowed to cook with butter, have mayo with your tuna, and put olive oil on your salads.
For carbohydrate diet, the consumption is restricted in the first two weeks. This quantity is about three cups of salad or two cups of salad with one cup of certain cooked vegetables per day.

How Dr. Atkins Diet Works?

Drastic reduction of carbohydrates, the body goes into a state of ketosis, i.e. it burns its own fat as fuel. A person in ketosis will get energy from little carbon fragments that are the fuel created by the breakdown of stored fat. Thus you tend to feel less hungry, and consequently less likely to eat. Atkins Diet

A diet program promoted and practiced by Dr.Robert Atkin is commonly called as Atins Diet. This diet is very well marketed through websites, books and other media programs. There Are Four Phases In Dr.Atkins Diet Plan.

Induction: During this phase of Dr.Atkins Diet, one usually sees significant weight loss. This being the first phase is the most restrictive phase of the Atkins diet plan.

Carbohydrate intake is to be limited to 20 grams per day and allowable foods include 4 ounces of chese, some cream, two cups of vegetable salad and one cup of low carb vegetables. Your major meal is meat: may be boiled, charcoaled or deep fried. It may include, chicken, turkey, meat or fist.

Ongoing weight loss: During this phase the daily intake of carbohydrate may be increased by 5 grams per week. This should continue till you are within 10 pounds of your target weight. Addition could be fresh dairy products, nuts, berries, alcohol, fruits, starchy vegetables and grains.

Pre-maintenance: As per Atkins Diet, during this period, carbohydrate intake is increased by 10 net carbs a week.

The so called “Critical Carbohydrate Level for Maintenance", is the maximum number of carbohydrates one can eat per day to maintain the weight.

Lifetime maintenance: During this phase of Dr.Atkins diet, it is desireable to stick to the eating habit practiced so far. Avoid going back to the old habits of following pre-Atkins or you will slip back to your previous weight.
